Diet & Health

We strongly encourage the holistic approach to encourage a dog's own healthy immune system response. Please note, we are not veterinarians.  We are just concerned dog lovers that only want to do what is best for our animals to live happy, long lives.   We highly suggest that you do your own research and decide if a biologically appropriate fresh food diet and limited exposure to unnecessary toxins is right for your pets. If you are interested in a puppy from Renegade Canaan Dogs, homes that support a holistic approach to diet and health are strongly preferred.

Current Practices
Over the last 60 years, processed pet food has become a mainstay diet for pets in the United States.  This food was not created from the very best ingredients to promote health in our pets. Kibble was developed from discarded and otherwise useless by-products.  Commercial pet food companies then promoted kibble as a healthy diet for pets and a convenient time saver for owners.

For several years the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) has suggested yearly vaccinations for multiple diseases.  The AVMA has reconsidered their original suggestions and are moving towards a less aggressive vaccination protocol.  Studies have shown most vaccines are being given to dogs who already possess the necessary antibodies. While the AVMA is moving in the right direction, it is important for pet owners to be educated about the suggested treatments.

More Information

The following books and Web sites are a great guide for beginners and we encourage you to research the fresh raw food diet and limited vaccination method very carefully.  You might want to consider finding a holistic/homeopathic veterinarian.

We do not proclaim to be health experts or veterinarians.  We suggest that you do your research and decide whether a limited vaccination lifestyle makes sense for your pet.
