2004 Show Report
March 22 - (Lexington, KY & Raleigh, NC) Renegade Conscience Control, "Xavier" (owned by Chrsity Hildreth in FL), did well on his first show tour with handler Ann Skylar-Cobbett at the Kentuckianna and Tarheel Clusters. Ann was proud to report Xavier made the cut in the group ring twice in NC. This is an excellent achievement for a 10 month old puppy. Way to go team!
April 8-10 - (Perry, GA) Extended "family" gathered for a fun weekend. The Renegade camp faired quite well at this cluster. On Friday, Xavier became CH Renegade Conscience Control. He is the third champion offspring for his dam, Lucy. This qualifies Lucy for the Register of Merit (ROM) title, given to brood bitches who have produced three AKC conformation champions. Xavier handles his agent Ann Skylar Cobbett with play bows, yodels, and tugs on his show lead. You cannot help but be charmed by his impish sense of humor in and out of the ring. Renegade Stryker made his show debut with increasing success as the weekend progressed. He earned his first four point major on Saturday with Best of Breed. Marley was a doll to exhibit, as always. She has crept closer to her CH title with 14 points in total. Lexi, another Renegade bred Canaan Dog, consistently placed as Reserve Winners Bitch which will ready her for the 2004 Specialty. In addition to conformation, the family headed to the all-breed herding instinct test. Stryker and Marley met sheep for the first time (earning a CDCA HC title), while Lexi earned her second leg towards the CDCA HCX title. Excellent job to all in attendance! April 18-19 - Apologies for the delayed show report, because our weekend in Springfield, MA was an exciting one. On Saturday, Stryker earned his second four point major which gets him well on his way to earning his CH. On Sunday, our Marley was handled to her final point (a 4 point major at that) to earn her Championship title at the age of 13 months. Her career began in November 2003 and with limited outings, she earned her title in less than 12 showings. Marley is looking forward to her career as a special, while she works on obedience. We are very proud of our little girl! May 8 - With wedding plans consuming our normal lives, this will the the last show we attend for a couple months. We plan to head back to the ring in July after a well-deserved 2 month rest. In Mojo's first show as a special, and his first show in 8 months, he did VERY well and was awarded the honor of Best of Breed. On a bittersweet note, his dam CH Lucy was awarded Best of Opposite Sex for what will likely be her final conformation show. In the future she might try her paw at obedience and herding. Oct 21-23 - The Canaan Dog Club of America National Specialty and Middleburg Kennel Club All-breed Shows After an extended hiatus from showing, the Renegade clan packed up and headed to Leesburg VA for the annual CDCA National Specialty and associated all-breed shows. The National Specialty was held on Thursday, Oct 21 and had a record high entry of 60 dogs. Renee and Lucy participated in the new PreNovice Obedience competition. The team scored the second highest score in that class, even though Lucy pretended not to know what 'sit' meant. :-) In conformation competition, our little girl CH Marley was handled by Renee to the Best of Opposite Sex Award! The following day at the first Middleburg KC all-breed show, Marley was again awarded Best of Opposite Sex with an entry of 45 dogs. We are quite excited about what a lovely adult Canaan Dog bitch Marley has matured into and are very pleased to have two well-respected judges agree in the company of so many fine dogs. At the awards banquet, CH Marley, CH Mojo, Stryker, and Lexi were all awarded their HC certificate. CH Lucy was also awarded a ROM title for her outstanding contributions as a brood bitch. The National Specialty weekend would not be complete without schlepping off in the mud to a remote farm for herding instinct tests and this year was no exception. On a cold rainy Sunday morning, 26 Canaan Dogs descended on a quiet little farm in western VA for some sheep chasing...err, um...herding. Again, our kids did exceptionally well. CH Mojo earned the second leg of his HCX title with ease, a very eager Sebastian rounded up sheep with Evan to earn his HC title, and CH Lucy also met stock for the first time and garnered her HC title as well as the award of Best Herding Potential. Her biddable, but determined working instinct was exciting to see and we hope to work with her further in this area. Unfortunately Marley was unable to participate because she came into season.
