2006 Show Report
July 20 - It's been a great couple of weeks for Renegade dogs in the show ring.  A big congrats to Dominic and Riley in their first weekend of shows, earning his first two points. Hope you had that well deserved glass of wine Dominic!

Two weeks later there was fun in Northern VT with a long weekend stay at what we affectionately call, "Camp Rosendog", a piece of doggie heaven on earth. We (three humans plus India and Marley) met Amy, Lindsay and Skye for a weekend at the guest cottage at Judy Rs place in VT. Also in the area for the weekend were our Northern friends, Larry, Michelle & Ms. Cybelle, as well as Judy and Amanda, of course! We had a great time at the camp, dogs frolicked on the rolling hills, went swimming (yes Canaani-swimming with pictures to prove it!) in the pond, a little shopping, a little R&R, two great parties with good food and friends, a tour of a well known ice cream factory YUM ...oh and 3 dogs shows too...:-) With the minor exception of India refusing to walk on slippery floors...and she apparently considers cement slippery....it was a great show weekend. Skye earning 4 more points. Sunday's win was interesting as Amy couldn't stay for our later ring time. Skye for some reason was smitten with Evan that morning, so I sent him in with her...in shorts and birkenstocks. Heck, it was Vermont after all. He handled her to WB and BOS. Skye also earned the points on Friday with India earning them on Saturday.

Also we want to send a big congrats to Jasmine and Victor. The pair earned Jasmine's final points for her AKC Championship on Sunday. Great job!

May 25 - Marley & Renee were both on maternity leave for most of 2005, but 2006 has them back in the ring. On May 13, we went to the St. Hubert's Kennel Club show in North Stonington CT for a "warm up" before the CDCA Specialty. We showed India in her very first show. She was such a good girl, but wasn't too keen on gaiting around the ring in the pouring rain. Stryker earned 2 points as Winner's Dog and Best of Winner's bringing him a step closer to his championship title. Skye, who is co-owned with our good friend Amy Preston, won the Winner's Bitch points (2) and Best of Opposite Sex at this show. This was her first show and she was such a good girl. Way to go Skye!

The next Tuesday saw us off to San Diego for the 2006 CDCA National Specialty. After some sight seeing and meetings, we hit the ring on Friday May 19. CH Marley earned her second National Specialty Best of Opposite Sex award. I think we are going to give obedience a whirl now and see if we can get a title or two on the other end of her name.

The specialty weekend brought us more success as Stryker was awarded Winner's Dog and Best Bred By Exhibitor on Sunday for a 5 point major, thus finishing his championship with 3 majors and 2 points. CH Stryker is excited to head home to the Brown's in CT now that he is a "real boy", as his dad Jesse teases. Thank you so much Jesse & Melissa for allowing us the opportunity to show this great boy. He has been so much fun to handle in the ring. I am very proud to have finished our second dog exclusively from the Bred By Exhibitor class.

On Monday, we head off to the valleys of Jamul, CA for some sheep herding. Stryker, having already earned his CDCA HC (Herding Instinct) title, decided that he was not up for earning the second leg towards an HCX. Stryker easily guided his three sheep to me and then decided that was the end of his job and off he went to flirt with the onlookers and mark the fenceline. If a sheep wandered away from me, I could call him and he would promptly come over and herd it back to me...then off he went again. The tester decided that he was not showing enough instinct and he did not earn his second leg. I think he might be able to concentrate better without an audience.

Marley, on the other hand, was very enthusiastic and showed sustained interest. So much so that she trotted away with the Best Herding Potential for a Senior Dog (one that has seen sheep before) award. Way to go Marley! If only we could find a good sheepdog trainer nearby, I think she would really enjoy that.

We are looking forward to hitting the ring later this summer with our new puppy girl India as well as Marley's first and only son Riley. Check back for updates on our adventures!
